About the event
Join me, Dallas Vietty - accordionist and educator, for a deep dive into two standout Django tunes that every advanced player will at least find interesting and illuminating: “Mit Mur Geige” by Fapy Lafertin and Elios Ferret and “Black and White” by Django Reinhardt. These aren’t just beautiful melodies—they’re Tier 2 tunes packed with groove, harmonic complexity, and plenty of room for expressive phrasing and improvisation.
In this livestream, I’ll break down what makes these pieces tick—from their forms and key centers to the unique rhythmic and melodic language that ties them to Django’s lineage. We’ll look at how to approach the melody on accordion, how to phrase with style and clarity, and how to create compelling chordal textures that either support or drive the groove, depending on the vibe you want.
Then we’ll roll up our sleeves and dig into improvisation. I’ll show you ways to internalize the form, navigate both common and unusual chord progressions, and build solos that make musical sense while still bringing energy and fire. As always, we’ll wrap it all up with the “Jazz Sandwich”—putting melody, chords, and improv together to make a complete musical statement.
